Troubleshooting

After you install Quill

Two macOS permissions can affect first launch or a new Quill update. Pick the one that matches what you are seeing.

macOS says Quill was blocked? Open it once.

Open Quill once. If macOS says “Kaleidoscope Quill.app” was blocked to protect your Mac, follow the steps below. This is the normal macOS approval flow.

  1. Double-click Kaleidoscope Quill.app. If macOS blocks it, close the warning and continue.
  2. Open System Settings, then select Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll to Security. Next to the message that says “Kaleidoscope Quill.app” was blocked to protect your Mac, click Open Anyway.
  4. Confirm with Touch ID or your password, then click Open.

Quill stopped working after an update? Check Accessibility.

Quill needs Accessibility permission to type into other apps and run Computer Use. After you install a new version, macOS can lose track of the earlier approval, so Quill may look enabled but stop working.

  1. Open System Settings, then select Privacy & Security.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Find Kaleidoscope Quill in the list and make sure its toggle is on.
  4. If Quill was working before and stopped after an update, turn the toggle off, then on again.
  5. If it still does not respond, select Kaleidoscope Quill, click the minus button to remove it, then click the plus button and add Kaleidoscope Quill.app from your Applications folder. Switch its toggle on.
  6. Quit and reopen Quill.
Reference view. In Privacy & Security > Accessibility, make sure Kaleidoscope Quill is enabled.

Only download Quill from the official Kaleidoscope Tech site, and verify the version shown on the download page before opening it.
